OVERVIEW:
The Carlson School of Management's Marketing and Communications department seeks an experienced multimedia producer to join our team. As the Senior Manager, Multimedia Operations, you will lead and oversee the creation of high-quality multimedia content that supports and enhances the school's marketing and communication objectives. You will play an important role in both the strategic vision and day-to-day operations of our multimedia projects, ensuring they align with our brand standards and effectively communicate our message to diverse audiences. 

In this role, you will serve as both coach and player to a team of talented photographers and videographers, overseeing the production of a wide range of content for various digital and print platforms. Your creative expertise will guide the development of compelling videos and photos for websites, social media, email marketing, editorial print products, and more, all while maintaining cohesive brand standards. In addition to content creation, you will manage multimedia operations, including project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation. Collaboration is key, as you will work closely with colleagues across the school to understand audience and business needs and translate them into effective multimedia content and stories. 

Reporting to the Assistant Dean, Marketing & Communications, you will be part of the Marketing & Communications leadership team. This includes mentoring and developing staff, managing workloads, and fostering a collaborative and creative work environment. 

Work on the award-winning, high-performing Marketing & Communications department, where you will inform and engage 400+ faculty and staff, nearly 5,000 students, and 60,000 alumni in 100+ countries via timely, relevant, and meaningful marketing and communications content.

The Carlson School Marketing & Communications department operates on a hybrid work schedule. The salary range for this position is $85,000-$95,000 depending on qualifications.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Integrated marketing communications: identify, brainstorm, and produce high-quality and differentiated content that supports Marketing & Communications objectives (35%)
  • Oversee a team of photographers and videographers that produce a broad range of external and internal marketing communications work including
  • Video for digital marketing and communication vehicles (e.g. websites, social media, email marketing, advertising, etc.)
  • Photography for digital (e.g. website, social media, email marketing, and print use cases (e.g. brochures, magazines, fliers, etc.)
  • Creative vision: Establish the creative direction for projects and content ideas. Sometimes this is taking a leadership role in establishing a creative vision, while other times supporting the creative direction of your direct reports. 
  • Reviewing content: reviewing initial content, providing feedback, and giving final approvals
  • Maintain creative output that is consistent with the school's brand standards, visual identity, and messaging strategy
  • Evaluate effectiveness of current platforms, technologies, and practices. Innovate where warranted and make recommendations for improvement to the Assistant Dean of Marketing and Communications as needed.

Multi-media operations and project management (30%)

  • Responsible for a suite of multi-media content regularly produced to support the school's brand and enrollment marketing objectives (e.g. testimonial videos, school-wide events promotion, photoshoots for marketing communication vehicles, etc.)
  • Oversee and maintain a current photo/video asset library, which includes leading projects that support this (e.g. photoshoots, b-roll video collection, photo/video release library, digital asset management software management)
  • Actively manage and track projects toward completion, including establishing timelines and reinforcing deadlines
  • Managing budgets for projects, when appropriate, ensuring fiscal responsibility and best use of resources.
  • Forecast resource capacity and demand; determine when to utilize internal vs external resources, when reviewing future Marketing & Communications projects and tasks, as well as incoming requests from other Carlson School stakeholders

Stakeholder relationship management and collaboration (20%)

  • Interact and effectively manage relationships with colleagues both internally and externally, from other departments and units within the school, and across the university
  • Communicate and collaborate cross-functionally with colleagues from across the school to understand user and business needs, and translate that knowledge into project recommendations and creative strategies
  • Work with fellow Marketing & Communications teammates to bring projects to completion, brainstorm new ideas, and implement innovations. 

Team management and resource planning (15%)

  • Serve as a member of the Marketing & Communications leadership team attending meetings and serving on committees as requested.
  • Serves as direct manager for full-time staff members as well as student workers. This role is accountable for their activities, work output, and outcomes.
  • Coach, develop, and provide strategic and creative direction to direct reports on their workload and outcomes.
  • Responsible for the management, scheduling, project prioritization, and performance reviews of full-time staff members.
  • Ensure all projects meet objectives and are completed on time and within budget.  Identify and resolve barriers to meeting project objectives.
  • Establish metrics, measure results, and develop project reports to highlight successes and areas for improvements.
  • Demonstrate continuous improvement and instill a test and learn mentality within the team and its outputs.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree in Communication, Journalism, Marketing or Art or related field
  • Minimum six years of professional communications experience. Non-communications degreed individuals must have eight years of progressive responsibility in communications.
  • Demonstrated skill, knowledge, and ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally, writing and in presentation.
  • Highly collaborative style, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal colleagues and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills.
  • A strong sense of the creative process required to make outstanding workâ”from concepting through to execution/production.
  • Strong understanding of brand standards and the ability to maintain cohesive branding across all multimedia content.

Preferred Qualifications/Selection Criteria:

  • 10 years of professional communications experience.
  • Two-to-three yearsâ™ experience as a people manager.
  • Communications experience within a higher education setting, agency or media outlet setting.
  • Ability to design, implement and optimize processes.
  • Proven leadership skills, with experience managing and/or mentoring creative team members.
  • Working knowledge of audio, photography, and video production processes, equipment, software, etc.
  • Experience managing creative vendor relationships, production processes, budgets, and payments
  • Portfolio of work that encompasses a broad range of creative projects and/or multi-media content
  • Ability to work in a hybrid work environment, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in both remote and in-office settings
