Medical Coding Specialist

As a Medical Coding Specialist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate coding of medical procedures, diagnoses, and services for proper billing and reimbursement. Your meticulous attention to detail and expertise in medical coding will contribute to the financial health and operational efficiency of our organization.

Responsibilities of the Medical Coding Specialist

• • Accurately review and interpret medical documentation, such as physician notes, lab results, and patient records, to assign appropriate codes for diagnoses, procedures, and services using ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS Level II coding systems.
  • Ensure coding compliance with established guidelines and regulations, including CMS, HIPAA, and other relevant industry standards.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals, including physicians and nurses, to clarify documentation and gather necessary information to support accurate coding.
  • Stay updated on changes in coding guidelines, regulations, and industry trends, and implement necessary adjustments to coding practices accordingly.
  • Work closely with billing and reimbursement teams to resolve coding-related discrepancies and denials, providing necessary documentation and insights.
  • Maintain a high level of accuracy and productivity in a fast-paced environment, meeting or exceeding coding quotas and deadlines.
  • Participate in coding audits and quality assurance programs to identify opportunities for improvement and ensure adherence to coding accuracy standards.
  • Assist in training and mentoring junior coding staff, sharing insights and best practices to foster professional growth and development.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information and exhibit a strong commitment to ethical coding practices.

Requirements of the Medical Coding Specialist

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical coding, preferably in a healthcare facility or medical billing environment.
• Must have Coding certificate.
• Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with healthcare providers, billing professionals, and insurance companies.
• Solid understanding of healthcare regulations, compliance standards, and HIPAA guidelines.
• Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.

Compensation for the Medical Coding Specialist

• Salary: $22-25/hr. dependent on years of experience.
• Remote opportunity available, must be located near Oklahoma City.
