Job Description
This position is responsible for creating original mechanical designs and details for company products that relate to product function and use and generates sales interest through consumer appeal. Other duties include modifying accepted designs incorporating such changes per customer application requirements, as required, examining designs and prototypes of new or modified products to visualize creative design concepts and preparing final drawings.
Job Duties - Uses accepted drawing protocols and compliance standards to develop and revise designs.
- Uses established specifications and standards to transform initial rough product designs using computer aided design (CAD) into working documents.
- Specifies system components or direct modification of products.
- Provides engineering support to team members in the manufacturing process. Changes drawings as needed.
- Creates accurate bills of material on assembly and detail drawings.
- Meets engineering schedules and contacts Engineer when functional, structural or scheduling issues arise.
- Uses computerized design tools and performs basic stress analysis.
- Verifies accuracy of instruction manuals.
- Pursues continuing education opportunities.
- Complies with all safety requirements.
Minimum Education - Associate's degree in drafting or design or equivalent experience
Minimum Work Experience - Two years of experience in a mechanical designer role
- Experience designing and revising using AutoCad, SolidWorks or other automated design software
Minimum Skill Requirements - Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office, including excel and a basic comfort level with technology
- Proven customer service orientation toward both internal and external customers
- Proven ability to work effectively with individuals in various departments and levels
- Proven ability to work alone or on a team on a broad variety of projects
- Proven ability to successfully manage multiple tasks in a rapidly changing environment
- Knowledge of the rigging and/or crane industries a plus
Work Environment An office space is the normal work environment, but the employee is occassionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level can be loud during infrequent periods in the manufacturing area, but is normally quiet in the office.
