Job Description



The Chief Academic Officer (CAO) will report to the Institutional President and will assist the President in leading the achievement of the college's strategic plan. The CAO is the primary leader and spokesperson for all academic strategy, academic planning, and academic outcomes. The CAO ensures the delivery of quality programs, outstanding student outcomes, and an effective faculty. The CAO will be a key contributor to setting the strategy of the institution and providing direction on growing the institution programs and offerings through innovative, mission centered and market-smart programs. The role will also provide oversight of institutional and programmatic accreditation, and academic support services.

Responsibilities
  • Facilitate academic leadership to meet the institution’s academic and growth goals and improve student outcomes.
  • Ensure quality student outcomes through effective strategy, planning, and monitoring of academic performance.
  • Articulate spokesperson who effectively conveys appropriate and inspiring messages to internal and external constituents. Represents Chamberlain with integrity to external organizations.
  • Ensure selection, development, motivation and retention of a high performing team and community of academic professionals.
  • Maintain a student-centered approach through ongoing and consistent two-way communication.
  • Ensure successful continuance of regional and specialized accreditation for the University through educational quality improvement initiatives and ongoing assessment of student learning.
  • Oversee and guide a culture of academic integrity, ethical behavior, data analysis and promotion of best practices.
  • Work collaboratively across an institutional and corporate leadership team to effectively accomplish goals. Established and maintain excellent relationships and credibility inside and outside the institution.
  • Maintain a positive, motivating work environment while ensuring accountability for key deliverables.
  • Build depth of possible successors within team.
  • Appropriately allocate financial and human resources to drive long-term value.
  • Understand and capably balance the inherent tension between growth and quality.
  • Develop and articulate an effective flow of ideas and information that generates understanding and creates a climate in which others are motivated.
  • Work effectively and collaboratively with people from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Establish and maintain solid rapport/connection with students, colleagues, and external stakeholders and with the organization and Home Office staff to include operations, finance, HR, IT, online services, compliance and legal.
  • Promote teamwork and professional growth, encouraging creativity, accountability and optimization of all available skills and resources to achieve the highest level of quality, productivity and efficiency.
  • Oversee and manage the development of appropriate policies and procedures to ensure the institution is in compliance with the necessary regulatory/compliance legislation. Proactively work toward mitigating risk.

Qualifications

  • PhD in nursing or related field required
  • MSN in Nursing and RN required
  • At least 10 years of nursing education experience required
  • Must be effective in various situational leadership roles with diverse constituencies.
  • Well-versed in operating in a highly regulated environment and demonstrated high integrity in ensuring compliance.
  • Ability to provide a clear message to diverse audiences.
  • Self-awareness and emotional intelligence resulting in insightful decision making.
  • Superb communication, listening skills and the ability to lead others to work collaboratively toward achieving shared goals.
  • Comfortable and effective in a highly matrixed environment. Ability to influence with or without authority; willingness to engage in crucial conversations in order to further the mission and realize results.
  • Demonstrated track record of forward-thinking preparation for future institutional needs. The ability to think innovatively and strategically, anticipate future consequences and trends, and incorporate them into the academic programs of the institution. Considers commercial viability and scalability of proposed programs and strategic direction. 
  • Demonstrates an executive presence that exudes confidence, integrity, transparency and competence.
  • Track record showing a penchant for business acumen and judgment, marked by results-orientation and bias for thoughtful action.
  • Decision-making rooted in data; sophisticated problem-solving and analytical skills.

In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected salary range for this position is between $164108.58 and $288104.20. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
